The Longing for Redemption

by Joe Park January 28

“For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now.”

Romans 8:19-22
A water project in Thailand

Not long ago, I received a message from one of our global partners in Thailand. Attached to the message were several photos and an update on their well project, which Tenth has supported through our Easter Sacrificial Offering. As I looked through the photos, a few images particularly caught my attention. One showed children studying on a dirt floor. Another set of photos depicted people who had been brutally killed by the military of their country. According to the partner, the military had suddenly invaded the village, mercilessly killing the parents, leaving the children in the photos as orphans.

After seeing these photos, I found myself restless for several nights, consumed by a mixture of righteous anger and sorrow over the situation of these children. This led me to reflect on how deeply God the Father must grieve over man’s sin, seeing and knowing all these things.

These children, who have endured such horrific events at such a young age, bear wounds so deep they might not yet be able to express their pain. Still, as the book of Romans reminds us, all creation longs for the day when Jesus Christ will come again and set everything aright (Romans 8:19-22). This passage in Romans has resonated profoundly in my heart during these days. I am comforted by the assurance that the Lord will bring eternal rest to those who believe in him and will justly judge the unbelieving and the wicked.

This Thursday, Pastor Enrique and I will leave on a mission trip to Japan and Thailand. During this journey, we hope to meet and encourage missionaries working in these countries, share the Word with local church leaders, visit church plants, and seize every opportunity to proclaim the gospel.

I humbly ask for your prayers that the Lord, who has stirred my heart through his Word, would likewise work through us to stir the hearts of everyone we meet, drawing them closer to him. May this mission bring encouragement and fulfill God’s purposes for his kingdom.
